INTRODUCTION:
The Organization's name is AIDSOM. It has been established in 18-01-1999 in Mogadishu by a group of Somali intellectuals.
After intellectuals have seen that the Aids epidemic is rapidly expanding in the Somali neighborhoods, like, Ethiopia and Kenya , and the lack of a Somali Central Government, the intellectuals have organized themselves to create this Organization in an effort to make public awareness, orientations and warnings against the epidemic to the war-torn Somali people.
The Main Objectives of Aidsom
• Public awareness through the mass-media, slogans and education system
• To open offices representing offices in almost every region in the country
• To also create institutional collaboration with other organizations local and international
• To convey messages carrying the Aids epidemic and it is risks to human lives to all kinds of Somali society in every-where
Aidsom Activities
Aidsom had opened it's headquarter at Merca (Lower-Shabelle region) and also opened sub-offices in Beled-wein, Dhusa-mareb and Kismet.
Aidsom also took part in welcoming the TNG (Transitional National Government) led by president Abdikasim Salad Hassan at the Mogadishu football stadium.
In 2001 the Aidsom chairman went to Denmark after receiving invitation from STS International Solidarity , fortunately STS International Solidarity succeeded to get funds for Aidsom to purchase the following items :-

STS International Solidarity is the sole International NGO who generously assisted Aidsom financially and materially.
Aidsom organization joined STS Somalia member organization in the year 2000, in 2002, there were some problems and mismanagements in the leadership of Aidsom then member activists asked meeting of the Aidsom general assembly to change in cumpent chairman Abdullahi Hassan Jama STS International Solidarity paid the costs of travel accommodation during the assembly meeting.
On 8 January 2003 general assembly elected fairly and freely a new Aidsom chairlady Mrs. Halima Bole under the auspicious of STS Somalia chairman Mr. Yusuf Mohamed Abdi. While deputy chairman was also elected in that meeting who was Mr. Ali Adam Osman (Akolo)
