INTRODUCTION:
A group of Somali professional teachers established Al-Mathal primary and secondary schools in 1998 in Mogadishu Somalia . The education sector of Al Mathal Development Organization has began its educational activities with two schools locating in two districts in Mogadishu . Later on as a development of our educational sector we expanded and added two more schools. Therefore, Al Mathal schools are now functioning in four districts in Mogadishu . Al Mathal Development Organization has a board of committee, which consists of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, secretary, treasurer and a committee of 25 members, which is legislative Committee.
The Main Objectives:
• To collect the war-oriented children and educate them
• To create jobs for Somalia professional teachers
• To revive our ex-Somali curriculum
• To provide up to date educational programs
• To alleviate the existing difficulties in the field of education
• To compete with Arab-run schools functioning in Somalia , receiving both moral and material support from the Arab world.
Al Mathal school works in four districts which is Waberi, Hodan, Shibis and Yakshid with a total classes of 75 the number of student in those four school is 3961, the teachers are 97 and other staff are 35
Al Mathal Future Plan:
• To expand Al Mathal school in all over Somalia
• To open vocational secondary schools
• To find tertiary education for our teachers
• To improve the quality of education
• To find a reliable institution or government that can collaborate with us
Al Mathal Development Organization becomes a full membership of STS Somalia umbrella in 2000. Since that time we had a good collaboration with STS Somalia and last year the Chairman of STS International Solidarity Mr. Vagn Rasmussen visited one of our schools in Waberi district and provided us an honor certificate as a sign of encouragement.
