So as to achieve its noble targets, Peace Campaign Group efficiently exercises various tools such as: seminars, demonstrations, press release, debate, round table discussions, etc. Therefore, by carrying out PCG work plans, a qualified team went out to Jubba valley regions in the beginning of August 2004.
Coincidentally, since the last days of August 2004, the probability of serious civil clashes was high in Jubba valley regions when the armed militia of General Morgan started mobilization towards Kismayo, the stronghold of Jubba Valley Alliance.
Therein, with the help of different classes of local communities in Jubba Valley, Peace Campaign Group has taken much pain in organizing community conferences and demonstrations that have taken place in Bandarjadiid, Bilisaale, Beexaano. These towns are of districts of Jamaame, Jilib and Kismayo in Southern Somalia .
The main objectives of these broader campaigns on peace held from 15 August to 15 September are of the following:
• Public orientation on peace and prevention of any conflict.
• Support the national peace process in Nairobi , Kenya .
• To increase the community awareness in participating all decision-
aking activities affecting them.
• Encouraging all communities to respect International Declaration on Human Rights and Minorities.
• Conservation of environment.
• Increasing community self-support in development, peace, education, health and being well prepared for building up municipalities.
Those conferences have actively been participated by a variety of categories in the communities like youth, women, religious leaders, teachers and traditional leaders. Prominent figures in the local residents have addressed very splendid speeches in those historical meetings and pointed out the significance of peace caring and self-supporting actions for all members of any community.
Fortunately, Peace Campaign Group has achieved to distribute to almost all participants of the meetings pamphlets of the International Declaration of Human Rights, translated in Somali language.
Many who took part the PCG programs offered much gratitude to the organization, which stood by the communities to make better changes in many fields. PCG was earnestly requested to maintain and expand its peace programs in those regions, which are now in much need of peace activities due to recurrent tensions there.
The largest assembly has occurred in Bandarjadiid, one of the counties of Jamaame district. Suldaan Bashiir Sheik, a well-known traditional leader and has a good fame in peace-makings, made a memorial speech on the meaning of peace, that aroused the feeling of listeners. Suldaan Bashir set his last remarks on reminding the participants of the target of this big meeting, which he said concisely "let our community live in peace and harmony while helping each other".
Suldan Bashir paid much thanks to Peace Campaign Group, and requested the organization to double its activities and increase its programs like seminars etc. for Jubba Valley regions.
It was of a great fortune that all these activities were smoothly implemented. We quite hope that most of the participants have been well imbibed with the messages and programs for which PCG has planned to disseminate not only in Jubba Valley but all in Somalia so as to attain a civilized nation based on democracy and social justice.
