Floods Team Report Survey

As we promised on our last meeting we went yesterday 23of November to Bal,ad and surrounding areas of middle shabele region where the floods have affected thousands of families

After our team led by STS Somalia chairman Yusuf M Abdi accompanying with the chairman farmer resource group Ali Istiila and STS Somalia secretary Abdirizak Ali Omar reached there the elders and responsibilities of Bal,ad and surrounded villages have recognized Ali Istiila who was one of the officials of ministry agriculture{ Balad coordinator of ministry agriculture } and near villages at time of former government in Siyad Barre welcome us warmly and miraculous

The team it's self were not reach there with an empty hands

The most affective villages are very far some how from Balad and is about seventeen kilometers from east of Balad district, after we drive through out a jungle ,heavy water and very rough road we hardly reached the area at last

The villages we first reached is named

1 mukaydhere

2 Yaqlow

3Golalay (Fadumo Dhuxul)

4 Damalay

5 farbarko

6Jamaco misir

7Gololay

8 Bulo Xasay

all the villages in around balad district is besieged by floods came out from the river and all habitants have been evacuated from their residents except from those who lost their lives some of people have escaped to the upper range of that area and staying with out any shelter , they do not have what to eat ,what they enter from the rain and the sun and what they protect from the mosquito

the only way to reach those people is a boat as you can see our selves also went thereby a boat and then we walked for a three hours long to see some of the villages as you can glimpse from the picture most of villages water lays in side of residents

Loses

About 15 people have dead including children, women and old people the death includes some were eaten by a crocodile some other were swept by the floods while other were eaten by hyena who himself escaping from the floods

The evacuated families reach 24 thousand families from the above mentioned villages

The floods have destroyed the crops of farmers around that area and totally destroyed about fifty thousand hectors of different crops such as

Maize

Some vegetables

Sesames

Papaya

Satires

And other different crops including water melon also underground stores were put in the water and swept all the foods which was stored in underground

Needs

The suffering people are now very needy of coming items

1- Plastic shelters

2- Mosquito Nets

3- Sacks of using to build fences to protect water floods from the river

4- Big sticks of using for the building fences

5- Clean water, foods and medicine.
